Country Song Gone Wrong?

I was not aware the song,” Girl Crush” was pulled from country music stations.  Actually, I was not even aware there was a song called “Girl Crush”, until I saw a post on my cousin’s facebook wall.  I began to ponder why some folks were upset about the song, but why others, who claim to be open minded, were upset at those who were upset to begin with.

Country music seems to have always been a more traditional camp when it comes to social issues.  They are without a doubt the most patriotic genre of folks as well.  So it’s really easy to see why they(some) would protest against a song they thought promoted a non-traditional lifestyle.  I’m sure many of them protested out of personal bias because the homosexual lifestyle just grosses them out, so to speak.  However, looking at it with an open mind and being tolerant of what others believe, a bigger reason must be considered.

Outside of personal bias or the tendency to protest against what grosses us out, there is another possible reason some folks are against a song that promotes the homosexual lifestyle(Remember, I am not saying this song does, just looking at it from that perspective).  If a person, like myself, believes the Bible is the inspired, perfect Word of God, he/she should naturally see homosexuality as a sin that should not be promoted as a normal lifestyle.

With an open mind, consider the following.

In the beginning God made Adam and Eve, instructing them to be fruitful and multiply. (Genesis 1:26-28 NKJV) The Bible even goes as far as to emphasise the distinction when it says He made them male and female, implying the natural order of things.  For many Christians this is all they need to know homosexuality is against God’s plan and design, making it a sin, even though Genesis does not come right out and say it.

Many skeptics, those who are in open rebellion against God and even some well meaning folks that profess to be followers of Christ  will cry, “that’s your interpretation”, or some other defensive cliche.

One thing that is important to note.  We do not interpret Scripture with our feelings or what we “think” is acceptable and right.  We must allow Scripture to interpret Scripture, allowing the not so clear to be made clear by the Scriptures that are easily understood.

Romans chapter 1, beginning about verse 18, is very clear.

Speaking of humans, Paul tells us that although God has made Himself obvious and that His attributes are clearly seen, people reject Him and even worship what He has created instead of Him.  The result of this rebellion was that God gave them up to vile passions, the first of these passipns he mentions are lesbianism and homosexuality between men.

It would appear that homosexuality is not necessarily the cause of God’s wrath being poured out, but is actually a part of His wrath.  He gave them over to these passions because they rebelled against Him and failed to worship Him.  And then He gives them more of what they wanted…

Then God gives them over to a debased mind.  I’ll just copy and paste verses 28-32

Romans 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers,30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.

Then in 1 Corinthians it becomes very clear.

1 Corinthians 6:8-10 (NKJV)

“No, you yourselves do wrong and cheat, and you do these things to your brethren!  Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.”

We are getting to a point about why a Christian should be against a song, or anything else that promoted homosexuality as right and proper, so hang with me for a few more minutes.

It is clear that God is against same sex, sex, and that His plan for marriage is one man and one woman.  Now before you start to think about Solomon and his multiple wives and concubines, remember, just because the Bible talks about it does not necessarily man God endorses it; but that is another discussion altogether.

From a Christian perspective, and from God’s, homosexuality is a sin, just like all of the other sins mentioned in the verses above.  These are not up for debate. Your opinion, my opinion on even a law redefining marriage does not change what God calls sin into some beautiful acceptable lifestyle. This is why you will andcshould see Christians protesting songs that promote the homosexual lifestyle as normal. Yes, we should be against all things that promote sinful lifestyles and, admittedly, homosexuality seems to be protested by Christians as they often give a pass to other sins like fornication, drunkenness etc. but this is to the shame of man not God.  One possible reason is the way the homosexual agenda is being forced upon us at all levels.  For instance, when  a baker loses their business because they cannot bake cakes that violate their faith.

The very large majority(I would say 99.9%) of us do not hate homosexuals and are not out to ruin anyone’s fun.  We are instead out to honor and glorify our Creator which, more often than not, goes against the grain.  That is why you will see, and frankly should see, Christians standing up against those things that promote homosexuality.  This will be offensive to people who have a bent for sin (which is all of us), so ask yourself if you’re really open minded and tolerant, or if you only are when the person’s view or belief aligns with what you believe to be right.

If you haven’t repented of sin and trusted the only Savior, Jesus, please do so today!

Until All Hear!
